progress update + bitsybox tune tool demo!
i'm getting pretty close to finishing the bitsybox v8.X update, but there's still a bit of work to do before it's ready - i'm at that point now where i'm honestly itching to be done with it so i can move on to other projects (...probably mainly that will mean working on fixing bugs in the bitsy editor that i haven't had time to deal with haha)
today though, i want to share something i'm pretty excited about - a demo of bitsy's tune tool running on bitsybox! this is the first glimpse of something i've been working toward slowly for a long time: the ability for bitsybox to run bitsy editor tools.
what's really neat about this is that ~90% of the tool's code is shared between the bitsy editor on the web and bitsybox on the desktop. in theory that means that someday bitsybox could be a full-fledged bitsy editor rather than just a player! i definitely want to put emphasis on the someday though - there's a lot that needs to happen before that's possible.
to set expectations: don't expect the next version of bitsybox to be able to edit games. this demo is very much a work-in-progress proof-of-concept for one tool rather than a fully functional editor. there are plenty of bugs, the UI for the menu system needs work, you can't save anything etc.
caveats aside, i'm quite happy that this works at all, and i look forward to people being able to play around with this demo someday soon! (it will available as a semi-secret mode in the next bitsybox update, so stay tuned for that)
